Mixed-light cultivation refers to growing cannabis using a combination of natural sunlight and supplemental artificial lighting. It’s a method that bridges the gap between outdoor and indoor growing—giving cultivators more control than field-grown cannabis and more sustainability than fully indoor operations.
At Trawa, mixed-light is our method of choice. It gives us the flexibility we need to grow high-quality flower year-round in Central Minnesota while keeping our energy usage—and our environmental impact—in check.
HOW it works
Natural light first
Our structures are designed to capture as much sunlight as possible. During the day, the sun does most of the heavy lifting, providing the full spectrum of light cannabis loves.
Grow lights as support
When cloud cover, shorter days, or seasonal changes impact light availability, we use energy-efficient supplemental lights to keep our plants thriving. These lights are precisely timed and targeted to support plant growth without overusing power.
WHY MIXED LIGHT Rocks
- Using sunlight means less electricity consumption and fewer emissions than a full indoor grow.
- We can maintain consistent production even during Minnesota’s darker, colder months.
- We can manipulate light cycles, humidity, and temperature. This gives us the control of indoor growing with the sustainability of outdoor methods.
- Mixed-light environments allow for better airflow and natural disease prevention, meaning we can grow with fewer sprays and inputs.
why it matters to you
Whether you’re a buyer, a brand partner, or just someone who wants to know what’s in your jar—mixed-light matters. It affects how the plant grows, how it smokes, and how it impacts the world around us.
At Trawa, we chose mixed-light because it lets us grow smart. We’re able to produce clean, consistent flower without overloading the grid or cutting corners on quality.
